Comedic actress Rebel Wilson hosted MTV’s 2013 Movie Awards. I thought she had some funny jokes, but some of them were really adult jokes for having young actress Quvenzhané Wallis in the audience.
I liked how Jamie Foxx was wearing a black t-shirt with Trayvon Martin’s picture in the middle, surrounded by pictures of the deceased from the Newton shooting. To me, it showed that he’s not too much of a Hollywood star to care.
Will Ferrell accepted his Comedic Genius Award, walking out in a suit with dollar bills on it, sunglasses, and a mustache. During his speech, actress Aubrey Plaza came on stage to take his award away from him. Although it was a planned joke, it seemed weird and out of place. He was very heartfelt during part of his speech, saying that he knows there are people who think he deserves the award, and people who don’t think he deserves it.
Actors Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Danny McBride presented Taylor Lautner with the Best Shirtless Performance Award. Rogen and McBride decided to take their pants off to show that if there was a bottomless award, they would win. The camera panned to Quvenzhané Wallis, and you could see her mother turning her head away. To add to the comedy, Lautner accepted his award wearing a fake beer belly underneath his shirt.
Selena Gomez performed her new song, “Come and Get It.” I was kind of looking forward to watching her, because I’d listened to the song on Youtube beforehand and it sounded good to me, but I was disappointed with her performance. It wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Maybe having a background track would’ve made it better. It was “too live” for me. You could hear an echo when she sang, and you could hear her panting after she finished. It sounded like someone doing a really bad American Idol audition, which I hate to say because I like Selena. But if you re-watch that performance, you’ll see that it wasn’t a good one at all.
The show ended when Brad Pitt presented the award for Movie of the Year to the cast of Marvel’s The Avengers. What I enjoyed most about the show was watching Rebel Wilson host, and tell jokes. I really hope that next year MTV can have actress, Melissa Mccarthy host the show because she is very funny. I even think that she and Wilson should do a movie together because they’re both funny actresses. That would be a movie I have to see.
