Marvel Update! Iron Man 3, Ant Man and Phase 2 of MCU!

It’s hard to believe Iron Man 3 is quickly blasting to theaters in 3 weeks. It feels like we just saw Avengers yesterday.

Tony is back in action after the forming of the Avengers, and he’s getting angry. Tickets for Iron Man 3 went on sale Monday Morning! Get on it!

Phase 2 already looks to be moving down a darker path (we likely have Mr. Whedon to thank for that). And as Iron Man sweeps everyone off their feet, Marvel is finally beginning to show us glimpses of what they have planned for Phase 2.

Here are the most recent leaks of information coming from Marvel as of late:

The studio began to wind down their Phase 1 series with the special Tesseract box set released just last week with the first 6 films in the Marvel franchise, with a featurette giving a sneak preview of Phase 2 packaged in the plastic S.H.I.E.L.D briefcase.
The internet is now swarming with leaked photos and clips of that featurette, including shotss of the Ant Man test footage from Comic Con 2012 that found it’s way to the web last week, as well as intense set photos from Thor: The Dark World, and incredible concept art for Captain America: The Winter Solider, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

We finally have seen our first official production photo from Captain America: The Winter Soldier!
It was also confirmed that the film, set to release in April 2014, will be taking place in Washington DC. The film will also co-star Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow in a supporting role alongside Chris Evans as Cap, and the cast will be joined by Robert Redford as new S.H.I.E.L.D Director, Alexander Pierce.

Also, when you finally come out of hiding to see Iron Man 3, make sure you arrive in time to see the trailers, as there will be the first teaser for Thor: The Dark World, and possibly the screen test footage for Edgar Wright’s Ant Man that everyone has been so enamored with? We’ll see.

In regards to the Ant Man test footage, more high resolution photos have been taken from the glimpse of it that was seen on the Phase 1 Box Set featurette, but if you want to try to find the whole thing there are some crummy attempts at keeping it online. You can try watching it here before Disney takes it down.
But, for your convenience, here is a lovely picture of badassery. You’re welcome.

Anyone who is interested in following a movie’s pre-production stage, or liked James Gunn’s other films enough (see Super and Slither) should subscribe to his Facebook page here, where he is sharing concept art and pictures of location shoots daily. Every once in a while even making status’ that may reveal some things about Marvel’s most closely guarded project other than Avengers 2.

So far, there have been only two official cast members announced  for Guardians of the Galaxy: Parks and Recreation’s Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, the Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer.
There are still the other member’s of the Guardian’s team, Groot, Rocket Racoon and Gamora to be officially announced. The film is set for release in August of 2014.

It was also just announced that Marvel’s second ensemble outing with the Avengers will be set to film in the United Kingdom in the beginning of 2014, with a release date still slated for summer of 2015.

And, though they’re not related to the projects at Marvel Studios other than the fact that they belong there:

20th Century Fox just released their first trailer for The Wolverine last week

and on Wednesday, Sony released the first official set photo of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, though the film’s director, Marc Webb, has been consistently posting viral set photos via his Twitter through production until it’s release in the summer of 2014

Iron Man 3 will be our jumping off point for delving into the rich material provided to filmmakers from decades of Marvel Comics, and Guardians of the Galaxy will merely be scratching the surface of it. Hopefully, with luck, properties like Wolverine, the X-Men and Spider-Man can be purchased back by an even more prosperous Marvel and Disney unification, but that’s a discussion for another day…

In the meantime: Iron Man 3 comes to theaters nationwide on May 3rd, and The Wolverine will come later this summer on July 27th.
