The Maze Runner movie has had a rocky start to production for the past couple years. But now with director Wes Ball helming the project, things are moving swiftly for the project. Last night, Ball tweeted that Kaya Scodelario will play Teresa, the female lead in The Maze Runner.
Aml Ameen and Kaya Scodelario were mesmerizing on camera today.Oops. Did I just reveal @kscodders is our Teresa? :)

Scodelario is most famous for her role on the UK TV show, Skins. Since then, she starred a few films including Now Is Good with Dakota Fanning and Andrea Arnold’s Wuthering Heights. In James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, she’ll play Teresa, the girl who changes things up when she turns up to the Glade, a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls, with an important message. The Glade is practically a prison holding 60 other boys, including Thomas, the story’s main protagonist, all suffering from amnesia. Together, they try to find a way to escape the Glade.

Scodelario is a favorite among fan-casting for several YA book-to-film adaptations. It’s nice to see her finally take part in one of these movies. After reading The Maze Runner, I think she’s perfect for the part, and I’m really looking forward to see who will play Thomas, opposite her. I’m sure with this recent casting announcement and production to go underway in Baton Rouge next month we will learn who will play Thomas very soon. So far, in addition to Kaya, Will Poulter (Gally), Aml Ameen (Alby), and Thomas Sangster (Newt) have joined the cast.
The Maze Runner is said to release in theaters Valentine’s Day 2014. If that’s so, it will go head-to-head with another much anticipated YA adaptation, Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. We saw how badly Beautiful Creatures bombed at the box office this past Valentine’s Day, let’s hope that The Maze Runner has better luck.
