‘Hunger Games’ casting: Characters Rue & Thresh are cast!

Lionsgate confirmed this afternoon who will play the District 11 tributes, Thresh and Rue, through the official Hunger Games Movie Facebook page. Dayo Okeniyi will play Thresh, a tribute not to be rifled with, and Amandla Stenberg will play Rue, a young girl that Katniss befriends during the Hunger Games tournament.

Both actors are relatively unknown, but I think that for a movie like this that requires around 24 teenagers, unknown actors are better. Plus, it gives these actors a shot at being in a pretty big and highly anticipated movie. Also, it’s a great idea how Lionsgate chooses to reveal the actors playing the tributes through Facebook. It’s a cool setup and almost mirrors how the tributes are selected in the story. We can’t wait to see the other cast reveals, which we hope is really soon.
