Ubisoft is already dipping their toes into the film industry with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It looks as if they plan to continue their venture with one of their other best selling franchises, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. The Tom Clancy universe used to be the top pick for first person shooters, giving way to Medal of Honor and Call of Duty craze. They have the Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six games, all being immensely popular given their extended library of almost 40 individual titles.
Ubisoft is looking to bring Splinter Cell to the big screen, with actor Tom Hardy taking the leading role as secret NSA agent Sam Fisher. Ubisoft has also stated that the screenwriter for the film is Eric Singer, someone who appears to not have very much under his belt. Only time will tell if the partnership between Ubisoft and New Regency pays off or if it will only continue the trend of sub par video game adaptations that we’ve seen in the past.
