Seahorses, sharks, sea-city, oh Aquaman! The first, vibrant and aquatically action-packed footage of King of Atlantis’ solo yarn made landfall at Hall H Saturday. In a (sea)shell? No salt detected.
In the third origin story of a DCEU metahuman, Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa; Kaan Guldur and Otis Dhanji as younger versions) is meant to rule Atlantis, but, for him personally, that isn’t the top item on his planner. Little does he know that the more he delays the process, the more threatening his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) becomes and the more devastating the war between Atlanteans and humans will turn out.
Also featured in the film are Arthur’s love Mera (Amber Heard), daughter and queen-to-be of an Atlantean tribe, who previously debuted in Justice League. Other royalties in the cast include Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren — she’s Queen Atlanna, he’s King Nereus — and Willem Dafoe.
And what a universe-hopping move: Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Randall Park will appear in Aquaman as Dr. Stephen Shin, a friend of Arthur’s father.
“The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film,” said director James Wan to EW. Aquaman is his big-budget actioner follow-up after Furious 7.
Landlubbers can meet this swimming super Dec. 21. No release date yet for Aquaman vs. The Meg. For more on the film and an eventual review, stay with The Young Folks.
