Back in 2013, two Australian directors named Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling submitted their short film Cargoto the Tropfest film festival. The short went viral online and has over 14 million views. Cargo is an emotional survival story set in the wilderness of Australia during an apocalyptic event. It follows a father in dire circumstances and his will to keep his infant daughter safe, and time is not on his side. Because of the success of their short, Yolanda and Ben adapted it into a feature length film starring Martin Freeman. The film takes the powerful story of the short and runs with it, making a truly unique apocalyptic drama. The film was picked up by Netflix and released on May 18thworldwide. After getting to see the film at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, I had the chance to talk to Yolanda and Ben about how their beloved short blossomed into a feature length film.
