Despite the advancement of science and technology, we continue to obsess over mythology. There is still a huge market for films based on mythology, and Hollywood has explored that, often adapting novels of the same theme. Let’s look at four of the best movies based on Greek mythology specifically, as in all honesty, there’s just too much mythology to go round.
Troy (2004)
Released in 2004, Troy is one of the greatest movies of all time. Written by David Benioff and directed by Wolfgang Petersen, Troy featured some A-list Hollywood star such as Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger. The film was loosely based on Homer’s Iliad. Produced on a budget of $175 million, Troy made almost $500 in box office worldwide. The story of Troy is one of the most well-known, and the movie does do justice to it. What the movie did so remarkably well was condense the entire story of Troy into just over a couple of weeks without losing any of its essence.
Clash of the Titans (1981)
The visual effects back in the 1980s were not as great as they are now, which is why Clash of the Titans needs to praised highly. Released in 1981, the story retells the Greek mythological story of Perseus, one of the greatest Greek heroes and slayer of monsters. Visually appealing and aesthetically very appealing, this is one of the best fantasy/mythology movies made in the 20th century. So well received was the film that Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. made a 3D remark in 2010. It was a commercial success and saw a sequel made in 2012 – Wrath of the Titans, which grossed over $300 million worldwide.
Hercules (1997)
Hercules is arguably the most well-known and most widely recognised Greek mythological hero, who rose to the status of demi-god. The son of Zeus and Alcmene, the image of Hercules carrying the world on his shoulder is known to pretty much everyone. The greatest of the Greek heroes, Hercules had a film made about him in 1997. An American animated musical comedy, the film was loosely based on the great Greek hero and gave him a very human touch. While it is unlikely that a movie based on Hercules will be made again, you can enjoy the thrills of the great hero by playing video games based on his myth. And don’t worry be happy that online casinos such as Dunder Casino offer bonuses to play such slot games inspired by Ancient myths and legends.
Alexander (2004)

Alexander the Great is one of the greatest warriors and kings who ever lived, and it should not come as a surprise to anyone that a movie based on the life of the king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon was a success. Starring Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie, Alexander was released in 2004 and quite well received in Europe. The film did not just explore Alexander the Great as a warrior, but it also gave a glimpse into his personal life, making him quite appealing and interesting to the 21st-century public. Of course, there was an element of fiction to the film, but that is one of the reasons why it was so appealing.
Among the other films based on mythology that you should also consider are Jason and the Argonauts (1963), 300 (2006), and 300: Rise of an Empire (2014).
