Doesn’t it feel like the last time we heard of a Maze Runner film was over five years ago? I was surprised to discover that only two years have passed since we last saw Thomas and his crew battling WICKED. Well, we’re at long last getting the trilogy’s final chapter. Just a few days ago, 20th Century Fox released the first trailer for Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
Directed once again by Wes Ball, the one-minute preview shows us that this time the stakes are higher than ever as Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) takes on his most difficult mission yet: save his friends or the world.
The reason for the delay was due to O’Brien’s injury in an on-set car accident in March 2016. Now that he’s recovered, Fox seems to be trying to give audiences the epic closure they’ve come to expect from dystopian franchises. Will the saga finish on a high note, or will it share the same fate as Divergent? Only time, and box office returns, will tell.
Adapted for the screen by T. S Nowlin, Maze Runner: The Death Cure also stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Giancarlo Espósito, Rosa Salazar, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ki Hong Lee, Barry Pepper and Patricia Clarkson. The film will be released on January 26, 2018.
