Let’s face it: Luc Besson is one of those directors who we just hate to love. Even though his films are not always the best in storytelling (I’m looking at you, “Lucy”), he always captures our attention in the best possible way: the visual effects, something he’s come to master over time.
Just a few months ago, we wrote about the first trailer release for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Besson’s upcoming cinematic project. Based on the French comic series Valérian and Laureline from writer Pierre Christin, the film has Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in the main roles and promises to live up to it’s original story.
The second trailer of the film was released this past week, giving fans a little peek on what to expect on this new out-of-this-world adventure. The two-and-a-half minute trailer shows amazing new details on the intergalactic city of Alpha, it’s alien citizens and the dangers it hides, all while a gentle version of “Because” by The Beatles plays in the background. Perfect choice of song, I might add. Seems like Besson had the time of his life filming this, creating and exploring new techniques for this new alien metropolis.
Even though I’m not a true Cara Delevingne fan (I still remember her really bad performance in Suicide Squad, sorry guys), I admit I’m looking forward in seeing this film very much. Don’t disappoint me, Mr. Besson. That goes for you too, Mr. DeHaan.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, also starring Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, and Rihanna hits theaters on July 21, 2017. Watch the trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments!
