Martin McDonagh, a name you have probably never heard of, is a playwright who recently has written and made known to the world that he will be directing Seven Psychopaths. It’s a story about 7 people entangled in a huge mess after a dog gets stolen. McDonagh is the director of In Bruges, another well-known crime comedy also starring Colin Farrell, and many are sure this movie will be even better.
Originally scheduled to be in limited release on November 2nd, the movie will now be released world-wide on October 12th, 2012. The movie is about a struggling screenwriter, Colin Farrell, whose friends (Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell) steal a gangster’s (Woody Harrelson) dog, which is a Shih Tzu.
It will also star Olga Kurylenko (from the James Bond movie Quantum of Solance) as number 1, who’s boyfriend is number four (Sam Rockwell). Number 2 will be Christopher Walken, whose partner in crime is number 4 (Sam Rockwell). Number 3 is Colin Farrell, whose best friend is number four (Sam Rockwell- see how this is being tied together?). Abbie Cornish of Sucker Punch will play number 5, whose boyfriend is number three, and number 6 is played by Tom Waits, and all we know is that he is “the one with the bunny.” And last but certainly not least, Woody Harrelson is a gangster whose beloved Shih Tzu was stolen by Hans and Billy.
The film’s synopsis is, “From Oscar-winning writer and director Martin McDonagh comes a star-studded, blood-drenched, black comedy. Marty (Colin Farrell) is a struggling writer who dreams of finishing his screenplay Seven Psychopaths. All he needs is a little focus and inspiration.
Billy (Sam Rockwell) is Marty’s best friend, an unemployed actor and part time dog thief, who wants to help Marty by any means necessary.
Hans (Christopher Walken) is Billy’s partner in crime. A religious man with a violent past. Charlie is the psychopathetic gangster whose beloved dog, Billy and Hans have just stolen. Charlie’s unpredictable, extremely violent and wouldn’t think twice about killing anyone or anything associated with the theft. Marty is going to get all the focus and inspiration he needs, just as long as he lives to tell the tale.”
The trailer actually looks pretty hilarious for a dark comedy, most of the laughs from Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson. Here are a few set photos, the posters as well as the trailer and official website:
