Back at Comic Con this year, we finally got a the official title for the Captain America sequel and a release date! We also recently heard that Anthony Mackie has been cast to play the Falcon in the sequel. Now it looks like Marvel is searching for a female lead and has narrowed down the contenders to Anna Kendrick (50/50), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) and Imogen Poots (Jane Eyre). ComicBookMovie.com reports:
The identity of the character is currently unknown, but is speculated to be S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger). Kendrick will next be seen in End Of Watch, which releases September 21st. Jones recently lost the female lead for Paramount’s Jack Ryan reboot to Keira Knightley.
One of my favorite things about Captain America was Hayley Atwell. Obviously, she can’t really reprise her role. So, who would be the best to play her character’s niece? Personally, I’d love to see Felicity Jones get the role. I thought she was terrific in Like Crazy and feel like she would be a good fit in the Captain America story. While she may be the most famous of the three contenders, I can’t see Anna Kendrick in this role. She’s talented, but I can’t see her playing opposite Chris Evan’s Captain America. As for Imogen Poots, I haven’t noticed much of her work; therefore, I cannot judge how she would do as a female lead. She is lovely to look at though.
I have confidence that Marvel will choose the right actress for the job. Which of the three actresses would you like to see in Captain America: Winter Soldier? Answer in our poll below!
