What We’ve Been Playing 4/26/14

Hello dear readers! We are back with another installment of What We’ve Been Playing. This week we have a couple of iOS recommendation to scratch that gaming itch on the go. Pablo recommends a truly unique and critically acclaimed iOS gaming experience for those of you looking for something a bit more substantial in the mobile space. On the other end of the mobile spectrum Desiree recommends a fun looking trivia competition app that looks like it could be the next social gaming app to blow up. Both games fill different needs that I have in my iOS gaming and I can’t wait to try these games out myself.

Pablo Rosero – DEVICE6

DEVICE6  is a very unique iOS game. A surreal thriller in which the written word is your map. Released on October 17th, 2013 as an universal iOS app (for all, iPod Touch/iPhone & iPad), the game received high praise from critics everywhere. The word “unique” is not to be sub-estimated here, the game’s developed by the always creative Simogo, makers of the other very pleasantly bizarre experience, Year Walk.

I finally got my hands on DEVICE6 and it doesn’t disappoint. It blends a written novel in which your world map are the written words and you’ll have to turn your device all around to read it and move forward. If the layout of the text itself isn’t entertaining enough, DEVICE6 features superb art design mixed with subtle animations, moving pictures and buttons to press.

The button pressing in the game isn’t pointless though, it isn’t pointless at all. You need to navigate through the texts, twisting your device, to find all kinds of audiovisual clues for the game’s next puzzle. The story is intriguing but the puzzles are just mindblowing. It’s easy to give up and just search for the answers on the Internet but try not to. Without giving any spoilers out, the first chapter could be the hardest until you get used to it. You have to play this game with a pen and paper to take notes and also be very “LOST-minded” to get into it.

DEVICE6 is an outstanding game/interactive novel/puzzle with a fantastic art design. Give yourself (and your brain) a chance to play it. Get ready to read deep into the words, look at everything twice, take notes and enjoy the mind blending sounds, because DEVICE6 could easily be the best novel you’ve read and the best game you’ve played on any device or form. Get it from the App Store.

Desiree Rodriguez – QuizUp

There are a lot of trivia apps games on the market, but few are as enjoyable as QuizUp.  The game play is simplistic enabling you to conveniently log in from your Facebook, or google+ account. What really makes the app shine is the wide variety of categories you can play with. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you’re looking for hardcore Jeopardy trivia in subjects such as: business, history, or geography, or something fun and light like actors, TV shows, and movies.  You can even pick a basic category (like movies) and narrow it down.  Want to test your knowledge of action movies?  Drama?  Romance?  Think you know everything there is to know about Marvel movies?  Prove it against other players from around the world, or challenge your best friend or sibling. It’s a simple app with a lot of punch to it that helps pass the time quickly when you’re at the doctors office, or quizup hanging out during your lunch break.
