10 Video Games we need to see in 2017

It’s been a glorious year for video games thus far. Through E3, we’ve seen the new God of War, the new Legend of Zelda installment, and we’ve had a look at Telltale’s new Batman game. It’s all amazing, but there are some specific games we’re looking for. Besides, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake

So without further ado, we’re going to list 10 Video Games that we need to see in 2017. (Warning: There are some spoilers ahead: read at your own risk!)

10. A Movie-based video game that’s actually good

It’s a common industry practice that when a new movie comes out, a video game could be released as a companion to the movie, usually to advertise the movie. Unfortunately for us, this is usually done for the bad movies. This is caused by the game only taking the movie as it’s source material, never mind what source material the movie used. What is needed here, is a movie-based game that takes in a wide variety of source material, in order to make sure the game’s fate isn’t tied to the movie, so it doesn’t fall flat even if the movie does or does not.

Case in point…

9. More Asura’s Wrath

Asura’s Wrath was a cult classic for gamers who followed everything Capcom has done thus far. It’s a fantastic story of a father fighting for his daughter, and it feels like you’re watching an anime when you play it, due to the QuickTime events throughout the game. Street Fighter characters Ryu and Akuma even make an appearance as downloadable content! The game was just so dang good! However, Asura’s appearances were limited to his game. We need more of it! If not a sequel, then as a guest character in other games! The character of Asura is just too interesting a character to confine to one game!

Easily some of the greatest boss fights ever!

8. Spyro the Dragon HD Collection

Spyro the Dragon is a classic PlayStation game that became a mascot for Sony alongside Crash Bandicoot. Spyro may have been in and out of games for the past 18 years, but he still manages to remain a fan favorite. Nowadays, Spyro has been incorporated into Skylanders, but we still await a return to the classics. Now, during E3, we received news of the release of Crash Bandicoot HD Collection, it is only a matter of time until Spyro receives an HD Collection as well, Something we all look forward to!

Someday… Someday we will glide right into an HD Collection

7. A Sonic the Hedgehog game that ISN’T Sonic Boom

We’ve all loved Sonic the Hedgehog ever since he first entertained us in 1992. Since then, we’ve enjoyed awesome games, such as Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and Sonic Heroes, it’s all been great! However, during the recent years, attempts to revive Sonic have been sub-par at best. New games were based on the cartoon series, Sonic Boom. A cartoon series that is not at all loyal to its source material, as such, the games that spawned from it are not up to the standards long time fans have set. What we need are more games like Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, platform games that allowed control of multiple characters, traversing through vivid, exciting levels, and emotional, riveting storylines. A return to these games will be able to revive the Sonic the Hedgehog series!

Now THIS was a level!

6. A new Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is every Marvel Comic fan’s dream game. A crossover of a multitude of superheroes in an original storyline, and a sequel that allows a player to interact in one of the most famous storylines in comic history, it all makes for two fantastic games! Now it’s been seven years since the sequel, and now it seems time for a new installment, say a storyline involving the Secret Invasion, Avengers vs. X-Men, Original Sin, or even the recent Civil War II storyline. With an updated character roster, updated graphics, and a new original plot twist, a Marvel: Ultimate Alliance sequel would be fantastic. Another option would be a DC Comics variant, to spice up the genre.

There’s strength in numbers

5. A new crossover game to follow the Project X-Zone example

To really understand this idea, one must know what Project X-Zone is. Project X-Zone is a crossover, tactical, role-playing game that combines characters from Capcom, Namco, and Sega. Never before has a game combine so many franchises from different companies. The idea of so many characters fighting together is something only Fanfiction writers can dream of! Project X-Zone became so popular that a sequel was created. If there can be two games that multiple companies work together on, than other companies can follow suit and create similar games. Combinations of characters from companies from all over the franchise, From PlayStation to Nintendo characters, a mass crossover would be a bestseller, similar to the Super Smash Bros. games, but with a riveting plot and fun gameplay.

4. A new Pokémon Stadium

Its no question, we all love Pokémon! From the handheld games, to the console games, we love it all. Two console games in particular are Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2 for the Nintendo 64. They had the same gameplay, pick a Pokémon and make them battle. They were fun and a great way to spend an afternoon. Nowadays, the console games have been varied as far as whether or not they’re “good”. The GameCube games, Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness were an interesting installment, but the Wii’s Pokémon: Battle Revolution wasn’t quite up to par with the others. Another Pokémon Stadium installment would certainly put the Pokémon console games back on top right next to Pokken Tournament

Our guessed reaction to a new Pokemon Stadium

3. A better Mario Party

If you owned a Nintendo 64 in the 90’s, chances are you have played, or owned, a Mario Party game. The Nintendo 64 had Mario Party 1-3 and they were fantastic in their own ways. Then the Nintendo GameCube was introduced, and with it, more installments of Mario Party 4-7, and then the Nintendo Wii with Mario Party 8-9, with Mario Party 10 being the most recent addition for the Nintendo Wii U. Now, while the series started out wonderfully it started to fade after the GameCube era, and with the introduction of the players all riding one vehicle and moving together in Mario Party 9 it’s just not the same. What needs to be done here, is that Mario Party’s 1-3 need to be redone and reintroduced into today’s systems. Bring back all the competitive gameplay and classic styles that made the game enjoyable!

Because battling for stars is serious business!

2. A new Sly Cooper game

The Sly Cooper series is still a popular among its many fans. With four games, and a soon-to-be movie under it’s belt. It’s no wonder it’s withstood the test of time. Speaking of time, we need a fifth game for the series, specifically because the fourth game, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was left on such a cliffhanger of having the titular character abandoned in time. The game needs resolution! Sanzaru Games, the company behind Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time has stated on Facebook, they have no plans for another Sly Cooper game. Although we will likely get a game based off the upcoming movie, like Ratchet and Clank.

Give us back the thief that stole our hearts!

1. Half-Life 3

The Half-Life series has been a fan favorite ever since the series was first introduced in 1998. It has been called one of the greatest video games of all time, because of its’ seamless narrative, and realistic gameplay. However, we have been waiting for 9 years now for a new sequel, ever since Half-Life 2: Episode Two. Fans have been waiting for so long that Half-Life 3 has become a meme. There are some rumors of Half-Life 3 being released on the game’s 20th anniversary in 2017 or 2018, but so far nothing is confirmed. So here’s hoping!

We shouldn’t wait half our lives for the next Half-Life!
