As you can read from all of our lists, we loved 2015 and all the great shows, movies, music, books and video games released throughout the year. Now on the first day of 2016, we are already excited for what’s to come this year.

Allyson Johnson’s Most Anticipated of 2016
- Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 – DC has yet to go wrong with their recent outputs of Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow, and with a big budget and great characters, I can’t wait to see what they do with Legends of Tomorrow. Big adventure, more Ray and Hawkgirl and Arthur Darvill joining the team (hilariously as a time traveler?) Count me in.
- Captain America: Civil War (5/6) – While I’m still not sold on this storyline as a whole, Marvel has pretty much guaranteed at this point that I will have my butt in a seat at the theater on opening day, and it’s unlikely to change very soon. With the same minds onboard as that of Winter Solider, my personal favorite, my hope is high on how this turns out.
- The 100 Season 3– I’m currently having a love affair with The CW — if you haven’t figured this out for yourselves — and The 100 is arguably my favorite show they produce. With the most recent trailer showcasing a hell of alot of drama, I can’t wait to have Clarke and Bellamy back on my screen.
- Star Trek Beyond (7/22) – Oh, I’m sorry, Star Wars who? Just kidding, we’re all fans here. I’m ready for Justin Lin and Simon Pegg to right the wrongs (many, many wrongs) that J.J. Abrams committed in Star Trek: Into Darkness. The trailer is on the silly side, but seeing the Enterprise crew on the ground, with new aliens, harkens back to the Original Series. Bright color and a lot of energy promises that Star Trek Beyond is hopefully going back to it’s playful, exploratory roots.
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Listen, all it took was Eddie Redmayne whispering “Lumos Maximus” to get excited. For me, this is just another excuse to allow me to spend more time in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world, and I couldn’t be more ready to go back.
- Silence – While I’ve always had an immeasurable appreciation for his work, I’ve also never been the mega fan of Martin Scorcese that many of my peers are. However, this doesn’t ever diminish the excitement I feel for one of his upcoming projects and with Silence being a passion project for him, there’s reason to highly anticipate the film’s arrival.
- Hail, Caesar! (2/5) – The last film directed by the Coen Brothers was Inside Llewyn Davis, which not only was my favorite film of theirs that they’ve ever done, but also, turned into one of my favorite films period. With a sprawling cast and a setting that’s sure to poke fun at old Hollywood, this is one that has a lot of personal expectations to live up to.
- The BFG – (7/1) – Adapted from the children’s book of the same name by author Roald Dahl, written by the late Melissa Mathison, Steven Spielberg’s upcoming The BFG has a whole lot of promise riding on it, and a lot of heartfelt story to tell. I always enjoy it when directors venture out of their typical wheelhouse (see-Martin Scorsese and Hugo) and with a cast that includes 2015 favorite Mark Rylance and all time favorite Bill Hader, there’s certainly something special on the way.
- Ghostbusters (7/15) – I am happy for this upcoming Ghostbusters film for a number of reasons (a small, petty one being how mad it made fanboys) but the biggest of them all is that it’s an all star, female lead cast. It’s being proven time and time again that female lead films make a whole lot of money, and this should be the same. Paul Feig has created a number of hits over the years, but no movie of his has gotten me as excited as this.

- Rooney Makes a Comeback
Christmas Day brought the first new Rooney song in four years and the promise of more announcements from the pop-rock band in the coming year.
- Remembrance by Meg Cabot
Meg Cabot is returning to the Mediator universe with her first adult book in the series–just as she did for The Princess Diaries this year.
- A Court of Mist and Fury and Throne of Glass #5 by Sarah J. Maas
I need to know what happens in both of Sarah Maas’s worlds, stat.
- Death of a Bachelor by Panic! at the Disco

- Jem and the Holograms Comics Continue
2015 brought Jem and the Holograms back in a big way, not all of it successfully. Kelly Thompson’s and Sophie Campbell’s series reboot gave the Jem and the Holograms story a new, more inclusive life that helped us ignore the disappointing movie.
- Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Pitched originally as a YA Outlander, Bracken’s latest sounds like a fantastic time-traveling tale with awesome characters.
- Outlander Season 2
Speaking of Outlander, the second season promises to be just as good as the first.
- The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
I’m simultaneously so excited and so scared to find out what happens to Blue and the Raven Boys in the conclusion to The Raven Cycle.

- Heartless by Marissa Meyer
With the Lunar Chronicles, Meyer proved that she can fracture fairy tales with the best of them. I’m looking forward to see how she takes on Wonderland in her next novel.
- An Arctic Monkeys Announcement
This is more of a fingers-crossed sort of deal–here’s to hoping for an announcement for a new album!
