Fall is always a crazy and busy time for entertainment. There are tons of new releases, from fall TV to movie awards season. That’s also in addition to all the new music announcements and highly anticipated book releases.
Well, it’s safe to say that we are mostly excited for the many upcoming films coming out soon. You’ll see a couple books, albums and more that we are anticipating in addition to all of the new movies. However, based on our wonderfully varied and informed opinions, here is a list of entertainment you should consider checking out for the rest of the year. Please keep in mind that what’s listed are not the only things we are excited to check out, but mainly ones that we are especially eager to watch, read, play or listen to this fall.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Now available)
I have been a fan of Metal Gear since the moment my friend insistently gave me the Essentials Collection in 2009 of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3. The story of Solid Snake, his “father” Big Boss, and the devastating weapon Metal Gear is one that spans decades with beautifully evolving gameplay, and a bizarre collection of characters and mind boggling plot twists that truthfully only make 100% sense to the series creator, Hideo Kojima. Now, with the official last entry in the series by the man who gamers jokingly refer to as a god, all loose ends will be seemingly tied once you’ve trecked through massive maps with a hundred of hours of content to play through. I’m so hyped for this game, I bought a copy of it before I even received my new PlayStation 4. I likely won’t need another game for a long time.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (September 29)

This new series from Leigh Bardugo is set in the same world as Shadow and Bone. I’ve heard a ton of great things about Six of Crows, and I keep hearing them. It’s rare when I haven’t encountered one bad thing about a highly anticipated new book, but all of the early readers are loving Bardugo’s new book. The story follows criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker, who is offered a heist job for a very pretty price. Kaz forms a crew of outcasts and misfits and together they try to pull off this dangerous heist. – Gabrielle Bondi

Macbeth (October 2)
As soon as the second trailer premiered, all I could hear was, “All Hail Macbeth” in my head. Macbeth was always the play that intrigued me the most. Who doesn’t love a good betrayal story? While there have been numerous renditions of the play (both good and bad), this version looks intense. Utilizing fog and dim lights, every scene looks beautifully shot with an emphasis on both the characters and battle scenes. It looks like it will be the Mad Max of Shakespeare adaptations. Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender are a power couple and going to completely dominate this film. I’m still torn between him and Leo for best actor, though. – Yasmin Kleinbart

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (October 6)
Rainbow Rowell is the best for writing the story that Cath is obsessed with in her 2013 novel, Fangirl. Carry On is a fantasy standalone novel that tells the story of Simon Snow and his relationship, Baz. Rowell is one of my favorite young adult authors and I always look forward to her books. Yet, it was this description that completely sold me on this new book, “Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story — but far, far more monsters.” – Gabrielle Bondi
Pan (October 9)
I absolutely love any and everything that has to do with Peter Pan, and I cannot wait for this film. Once again, we are being introduced to the fantastical and mystical world of Neverland, but with a few unique takes on a few of its original characters. While it has taken me a little while to get over some of the casting choices, I can now look past that and focus on this new origin story of the boy who never grew up. The visuals look absolutely breathtaking and the costumes are fantastic as well. – Stephanie Jones

Steve Jobs (October 9)
On his own, Danny Boyle is a director to be reckoned with. His diversity as a filmmaker cannot be overstated. I would compare him favorably to Stanley Kubrick in that regard, as no two films of his are alike. With Boyle at the helm directing a script by acclaimed screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, Steve Jobs looks like a surefire success. I was incredibly disappointed by 2013’s Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher in the title role. Not only was Kutcher completely miscast, most of the film felt incredibly fictionalized and hollow. Early reports cite Steve Jobs to be “dramaticized”, but the word of mouth on the film has been very positive. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was quoted as saying, “I felt like I was actually watching Steve Jobs” after viewing a rough cut. In all honesty, that’s all I need to hear to convince me that Steve Jobs will be a film worth seeing. – Matthew Goudreau
Suffragette (October 13)
I love stories about women. Rebellious women, passionate women, women of color, bisexual women, women who are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, students, doctors, screw ups, what have you. I eat it up because to my eyes (eyes that studiously consume all things film and media), we clearly don’t see enough stories about what equates to half of the population. As a media aficionado, simply put, this sucks, it needs to change, and Suffragette is one of the few Oscar bait (yes, I hate the term too) films of the fall that will be getting a big, spotlighted release. While I hope the film is more diverse than the trailers and stills let on (it wasn’t only straight, white women who were leading the charge for women’s rights), I am optimistically hopeful for the quality of the film due to the creative team involved. – Allyson Johnson

Delirium – Ellie Goulding (November 6)
Ellie Goulding’s third studio album is finally coming out this November. News and speculation have been buzzing all year long about when she would release her highly anticipated follow-up to Halcyon. While her new single, “On My Mind,” takes a couple listens to really get into it, I have high hopes that Ellie’s new venture into developing her own pop sound with Delirium is as good as her past albums. – Gabrielle Bondi
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (November 20)
I’ve unashamedly been a huge fan of both the book series and the movie franchise. The latest trailer has me utterly hyped up for the final installment, and even though I know what’s coming, specifically who lives and who dies, I can’t wait to see it all play out on the big screen. I’ve been particularly impressed with the marketing for the film series – and yes, I know the movies are commercial rather than critical successes, but the overall casting, costumes, score and pacing are fantastic. – Hannah Atkins
The Danish Girl (November 27)
For our TYF Thanksgiving special last year, I wrote that I was thankful for Eddie Redmayne and his art, for his captivating on screen presence, for his ever-growing ability to fully become the characters he is portraying. I finished my thank you note to him with an eagerness to see his future projects, and one year later, I’ll be able to with his, what is sure to be another Oscar-nominated role as transgender woman, Lili Elbe.
In The Danish Girl, he’s given us a role that once again requires a physical transformation from him, and from the first look, it seems as though he perfectly captured the person he is portraying. Eddie Redmayne is one of my favorite actors because in every one of his roles, he fully becomes the portrait he is painting. From his fingertips grazing a dress that awakens something inside of him to his eyelashes delicately fluttering at a handsome stranger across the room, his whole body becomes the role. He is mindful of even the smallest of movements, and I can’t wait to see them come alive this November. – Alejandra Torres
25 – Adele (November TBA)
Do we really need to explain why we’re excited for the follow-up to Adele’s mega-hit album, 21? We learned a few weeks ago that Adele will be releasing her third studio album in November. The album, 25, will reportedly include collaborations with Max Martin, Danger Mouse, and Ryan Tedder. I love, love, love Adele, and I can’t be more excited to hear new music from her. – Gabrielle Bondi

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (December 15)
Is there anything that really needs to be said? It’s “Star Wars.” One of the biggest landmarks in cinema history. Ever. And it’s coming back to theaters! More importantly, with the direction of J. J. Abrams and a return to practical effects, the new movie looks like it is committed to going back to the series’ roots — capturing the spirited essence that made the original trilogy such beloved movie classics. On top of that, what little we do know about the plot and characters promises us an engaging story that carries on the original’s legacy while introducing a whole batch of complex characters that we can get invested in. It’s going to be monumental. Come December, audiences all over the world will be excited to go back to a galaxy far, far away and realize that the Force will be with us. Always. – Alex Hanavan
Concussion (December 25)
Even though After Earth and Focus didn’t leave much of an impression, I remain a Will Smith fan, and I’m so excited for this! It seems like for years we’ve heard about the dangers of football. Even President Obama has been quoted about if he had a son he’d think twice about letting him play football. Law & Order has done a similar episode about the correlation between brain damage and football. And so, I’m glad that there will be a studio film starring a movie star because that means even more people will pay attention to this serious issue. The trailer was good, and Smith is impressive. I can’t wait for Christmas! – Melissa Berne
The Revenant (December 25)
Is this going to be the one for Leonardo DiCaprio? From the trailers and reports about the difficult set conditions, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s new film about a frontiersman’s path for revenge looks incredible. Joining DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson also star in the film. I’ll be surprised if we’re not buzzing about this movie for months after its release. And man, do I hope this finally gives Leo DiCaprio a well-deserved Oscar. – Gabrielle Bondi
