Alien Isolation

Developer studio Creative Assembly picked up SEGA’s franchise based on Ridley Scott’s classic Alien film after last year’s beyond disastrous Aliens: Colonial Marines. This game takes the series back to its roots. The player assumes the role of Ellen Ripley’s daughter, aboard a desolate ship, attempting to simply escape before the Xenomorph catches you. The game not only boasts stunning next generation graphics, but also captures the feel of the 1979 film in its architecture, sounds, technology and dreadfully dark ambience. This game is genuinely terrifying and stressful, as the player must actively avoid the Xenomorph to reach the next checkpoint, but the Alien is not a scripted enemy. Its AI is random, and therefore its actions are unpredictable. In this game, you can get lucky, or you can get slaughtered, but no one will hear you scream.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (SSB4)

The fourth installment in Nintendo’s now classic crossover brawler series, Super Smash Bros. pits up to four players against one another as their favorite characters, all with unique moves and weapons on fighting stages from your favorite Nintendo games of the past. The goal: hit your opponents with attacks until they’re weak enough to be sent flying off the stage. Kind of like Sumo Wrestling, but with Mega Mushrooms. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Fire Emblem, Megaman, Earthbound and even games from the old disappointment Gyromite to current cult favorite Xenoblade Chronicles are represented here for fans. It’s accessible and simple enough for new players, and capable of complex dodging and combos for competitive veterans, and Nintendo now captures this difference in Smash for 3DS with different modes: For Fun and For Glory. The classic single player modes return, as well as online matches and the 3DS specific Smash Run mode.
