The trailer for Wes Anderson’s stop-motion animated film Isle of Dogs released today and it’s fascinating. Set in a futuristic Japan, a 12-year-old boy attempts to find his guard dog, Spot, with the help of the exiled canines of Trash Island (what a fun name). From the first-look this film is visually mesmerizing. The stop-motion looks similar to that of Anomalisa and Fantastic Mr. Fox, where the visuals are so good they trick you into believing it’s live action human performers on-screen. The animation looks great, the story looks intriguing, the film just looks like it will be unique all-around.
The voice cast is strong with the likes of Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Liev Schreiber, Scarlett Johansson and more. Couldn’t ask for any more originality than this, as this is Wes Anderson for you at his finest. As cool as Fantastic Mr. Fox was, this film has a chance to bypass it in terms of overall concept. Isle of Dogs is set to release in theaters on March 23, 2018.
