Review: ‘All’s Fair in Love and Wardrobe’ by Stephanie Simons

For all the fashionistas out there who need some relationship advice, look no further. Author Stephanie Simons conveniently ties love advice and fabulous fashion together in her book, All’s Fair in Love and Wardrobe. This fun book helps us fashionistas bring the Prada chic in our love lives.

When I first heard about a book that brought together fashion and relationship advice, I thought it was too good to be true. I did not know what to expect prior to reading it, so I came in with an open mind, and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. It is different than what I initially expected; I did not know that it was going to have some humor and Ryan Gosling in it (and who doesn’t love him!). The book is one filled with rules and tons of advice – you may even spot some of your favorite celebrities in it as well.

Throughout the book, you will also find lovely illustrations paired with each love rule that was created by Malia Carter. They are beautiful and give the book a lot of fun, character, and life.

The rules are clever, funny, and very relatable. This book can become anyone’s go-to handbook when dealing with sticky situations with guys and even help when deciding what to wear on a date. Don’t forget to read the closet confessions that are spread throughout the book. These are short stories of dating situations that have gone wrong, reminding us that finding “the One” is not perfect and will take time. So yes, being fashionably late is okay (sometimes).

One of the rules that I loved was Rule #31:

Allow yourself a full thirty days before making any hasty decisions and putting him back on the shelf for someone else to snap up. How to break off an engagement, per standard store return policies. (Simons)

It’s true, though! Always give someone a fair shot and get to fully know them before giving up something that has the potential to be something quite special. Even though Stephanie does tie in fashion, her rules do ring with a lot of truth. So yes, one date may have gone bad and perhaps the guy might have been nervous, but you never know what could have been if you don’t give someone a fair chance.

Now, this is not a typical novel where you have a protagonist, a moving plot, and a happily ever after. Instead, look at this book as your love handbook when it comes to dating, and if you are like me, any and all help is very much appreciated.
