Fans have speculated what the title will be for the final Divergent book coming out later this year. Many of us have scoured dictionaries looking for words that ended in “gent.” While many others settled on just calling it author Veronica Roth’s nickname for the book, Detergent.
Well, the day has finally arrived! Here is the official title of the last book in the Divergent trilogy:
Used as an adjective, allegiant means loyal and faithful, as a noun, a faithful follower or adherent. USA Today released a video late last night of Veronica Roth announcing Allegiant. The video is pretty dramatic and hokey, naming all of Divergent’s accomplishments then finally telling what we’ve wanted to know for forever.
I personally like the title. Its meaning works well with what I expect to happen in the final book. Even though as a fan I’m slightly endeared to the silly Detergent faux-title, I’m happy we’re one step closer to knowing more about and reading Allegiant. (Click here to read Allegiant’s official description.) The cover is expected to be revealed in May.
