Book News: Cover Reveals for Shades of Earth, Scarlet, Asunder & more!

We have some more cover reveals for new and highly anticipated upcoming books. Earlier this week, we posted the cover for The Casual Vacancy, J.K. Rowling’s new book, which of course made a big splash. Below are a few covers that are making splashes of their own. Check them out and let us know which ones you’re most excited for! Shades of Earth (Across the Universe #3) by Beth Revis – I wasn’t totally enamored with Across the Universe, but its sequel A Million Suns totally blew it out of the water. It was such an excellent read and I can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy: Shades of Earth. With this cover reveal, it was also announced that the whole Across the Universe trilogy got a cover redesign. I’m a bit bummed out because now Shades of Earth won’t match the previous books I own. Also, I did find the original design much more appealing. However, I understand why they redesigned it. It definitely will catch more male readers’ attentions than the starry, romantic original. That also couldn’t have been more obvious by debuting on Wired.com with a post by GeekDad. Hey, despite not really loving the new cover design, if it gets more people to read this fantastic story, I’ll support it! You can see the new covers for all three books at the bottom of the post. Shades of Earth hits bookshelves in January 2013.

 

Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer – When I first heard of Cinder, which follows a cyborg Cinderella, I was weary about how that would go. But after reading it, I was completely captivated by Cinder’s tale and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next in The Lunar Chronicles. Scarlet is the second book and follows the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Yet, it still follows Cinder’s story as well. The author says:

Cinder does play a very large role again. She continues on her next adventure, but you also meet Scarlet, a girl who lives in southern France with her grandmother. At the beginning of the book, her grandmother has mysteriously disappeared from her farm, so she’s trying to find her. The only person who’s willing to help is this street fighter who’s shown up randomly in her town. He may or may not be up to no good. You have these two opposing story lines, but as they go on, they tie together and Cinder and Scarlet meet up and join forces.

The cover is in the same vein as the previous book. It’s a nice cover, but not spectacular. In my opinion, this is a case where you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Scarlet releases in early 2013.

 

The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines #3) by Richelle Mead – If you read my review of The Golden Lily, you know how much I love the Bloodlines series and how excited I am for The Indigo Spell! I think a lot of interesting things are awaiting us in the book, and I look forward to reading what they are. As for the cover, this isn’t the final cover for the book. I suppose they wanted to debut it early to get the buzz going? Richelle Mead clarified this and some other things about the cover on her blog:

First, this is an early version, so the tattooing hasn’t been added yet. It’ll come later, so don’t worry–it’s not some secret about the book. What is secret is who the guy on the left is. Lots of people have been asking…but well, you need to be surprised by some things! When the cover gets a few more tweaks and is in its final version, I have a feeling you’ll be able to figure it out. :)

I’m pretty sure I already have it figured out though. And the fact that he is on the cover confirms my suspicions that he will be playing a big role in the story. Also, I’m kinda bummed we only get half of Adrian’s face on the cover. The Indigo Spell comes out February 12, 2013.

 

 

Dead Silence (The Body Finder #4) by Kimberly Derting – I still need to read #2 and #3 of The Body Finder series. I did enjoy the first book, so I don’t know what’s stopping me from continuing on (Probably the ever-growing pile of unread books in my room). I always thought that this series had stunning and simple covers. Dead Silence follows just like the previous 3. Derting, as always, exclaimed much love about the cover on her blog:

Remember when I mentioned how much I love the cover for DEAD SILENCE? I believe I said something about it being my favorite one, or maybe that I wanted to make a dress out of it and wear it around town, or possibly that I was considering running away with my crazy-talented cover designer.

I must agree that she has a “crazy-talented cover designer.” Dead Silence releases on April 16, 2013.

 

 

Asunder (NewSoul #2) by Jodi Meadows – The Incarnate cover is probably the most beautiful cover I ever saw, and its sequel Asunder is just as stunning. It also helps that I love the story in Incarnate and look forward to what happens next to Ana and Sam in Asunder. Jodi Meadows answered some questions about the title and cover on her blog:

The mood, the model’s expression, the rose petals breaking off her mask — those are all important. One of the things that most impresses me about the KT Books art department is how well they capture the essence of my books. While the INCARNATE cover was light and innocent, the ASUNDER cover reflects the slightly darker tone of the second book, and Ana’s growing fierceness.

Hmm… it sounds very interesting, especially “Ana’s growing fierceness.” I always enjoy a fierce lead character. Click here to read more about what Meadows says about Asunder. Asunder hits bookshelves January 29, 2013.

 

 

Breaking Point (Article 5 #2) by Kristen Simmons – I read Article 5 a couple months ago and liked it. I have a feeling that I’ll like the story even more as it continues in Breaking Point. One of the things I love about the cover is that it’s easily recognizable as Chicago, which is where I live. And it gives us a big clue as to where the story will continue. Post-apocalyptic Chicago is becoming a trend, huh? First Divergent.. now this? lol. Here’s what the author had to say on Breaking Point’s cover:

I love it. I think the artist captured a beat down Chicago perfectly. And Chase isn’t looking bad either. High five to Tor’s kickass art team!

Again, this design mirrors Article 5’s cover, which I found to be effective in drawing my attention. It’s neutrality will also appeal to a larger target audience. Breaking Point releases on February 5, 2013.
