Book News: Cover Reveals for Boundless, Sever, Through the Ever Night & more!

Quite a few cover reveals debuted in the past weeks, especially for sequels of books that I loved. Here are some them. For full and larger images of the book covers, either click on the thumbnails or go to the slide show at the bottom of the post.
Boundless, the last book in the Unearthly trilogy, has the same look as the previous two books. Therefore, I wasn’t so surprised with it’s cover design. The author, Cynthia Hand, mentioned that this cover was her favorite, saying “I love her expression, I love her dress and the way the wind is moving it, I love the lake rocks under her feet, the suggestion of water, the parting of the clouds, and I love the color. It’s all LOVELY.” And I agree! Unearthly and Hallowed are some of my favorite books; so I’m very much looking forward to Boundless. My review of Hallowed can be read here. Boundless hits shelves in January 2013.
The sequel to Under the Never Sky debuted its cover this morning. I wasn’t expecting the cover for Through the Ever Night to mirror the previous book, for some reason. But I do like it, despite the model not looking like how I imagined Perry to be. The author, Veronica Rossi, explained why that is, “Some of you might notice that Perry got a hair cut. Truth is, it’s near impossible to find someone with the hair I picture for Per, which can best be described as post-apocalyptic surf-shag? I think he looks pretty good with shorter hair, too.” My review of Under the Never Sky can be read here. Under the Ever Night releases January 8, 2013.
The final book in the popular Chemical Garden trilogy, Sever, got it’s cover reveal on USA Today. I love the design on all of the books in this series. The green in this cover really pops. Despite it not being my favorite shade of green, I still think it’s a striking. I have to admit that I have yet to read the second book, Fever. I thought Wither was an interesting book, but not much about it has propelled me into reading Fever yet. Hopefully, I’ll get to it before Sever is released. My review of Wither can be read here. Sever releases in early 2013.
Unravel Me debuts not just it’s cover but the whole new look for the series. My review of the first book in the Shatter Me series shows the previous cover design. I do think the new covers are much more striking and beautiful. But I don’t understand how the eye fits or relates to the story? Maybe I’m completely missing or forgot something. Author Tarereh Mafi also revealed the covers for the Shatter Me paperback and the novella Destroy Me, which is a short story written in Warren’s perspective. Mafi commented on the cover redesign, saying “we’ve completely redesigned the look for the entire SHATTER ME series, not just the paperbacks. this means all future paperback and hardcovers will follow this new style… But i hope you know that a great deal of thought and deliberation went into this decision. ultimately, Harper really felt this new design was the best direction for the series, and i wholeheartedly agree. i’m completely, madly in love with all of these new covers and their significance to the story. and most of all, i’m so thrilled to be able to share them with you.” The paperback for Shatter Me and Destroy Me (in a digital format) will release on October 2, 2012. Unravel Me hits shelves February 5, 2013.
I’m a bit late with The Essence cover, but I just saw it the other day and thought to add it to this post. The cover is definitely in the same vein at the previous book, The Pledge. I love the deep red color and it seems to give off the right vibe for the story. The author, Kimberly Derting also exclaims about the color, “The red! Dear lord, the red! …Did I mention the red?!?!” I know Derting’s Body Finder books are more popular, but I like The Pledge series much more. With all the YA dystopian books on the market, this series is one of the more unique ones. And I can’t wait to get my hands on The Essence! My review of The Pledge can be read here. The Essence releases January 1, 2013.
