Making friends after college can be a little rough. Trust me. As one who has a full time job and blogs on the side, there isn’t much time to go out and make friends. But even if I did have the time, I wouldn’t even know where to start. Without the comfort of class schedules, campus clubs and school events, making friends that you click with can be a challenge. But as an active book club attendee, book clubs make finding your #squad a little bit easier. Joining a book club in your twenties has more benefits than you imagine. As the saying goes, don’t knock it until you try it. Here are the top 5 reasons why every twenty-something should join a book club.
You meet new people
Once college is done, it can be hard to meet other people who share the same interests as you. With the majority of your time spent at work, there isn’t much time to meet other people. Joining a book club can help you meet people in person and not online. This whole “in person” thing?! Sounds crazy- I know. Book clubs makes it easy to find your type of people because you already have common ground- a love of books and reading. Who knows, you may never look back.
Expanding your book preferences
My preferred genre is contemporary romance but there’s only so many that I can read back-to-back until the plots start to blur together. What’s nice about joining a book club is that you get to explore other books that you might not have heard of or decided to pick up before. These people may not be from your immediate group of friends so there will be a variety of different interests that you can pull from. You get to read books that other people enjoy and they get to read books that you enjoy. It’s a win-win in my book (pun intended).

Let’s get social
What’s nice about book clubs is that the meetings cut up the mundane work week routine. Sure, it’s nice to just go home, relax, and watch Netflix the rest of day, but going out and chatting it up with your bookish pals adds spice to your social calendar. Not to mention, it gives you something to look forward to!
Leave your comfort zone

Joining anything new can be a little nerve racking. Remember the days of club rush and the first day of a new school year? Those same jitters come with any new adventure. But once you get settled in, you’ll be glad you made the decision to join. Also, you don’t have to meet at a coffee shop and chat with strangers for a few hours if that isn’t your thing. If you want to take it slow and join an online book community that’s fine too. Go at your own pace.
Here for the good food, stay for the chit chat
Book clubs often talk about the chosen book and then spend the rest of the time catching up while sipping a good cup of coffee. Many book clubs are more free flowing and fun than people give them credit for. There are a ton of book clubs out there; you just need to find one that fits your vibe.

Turn a new page
Whether you’re turning a new page or a new leaf, you should really consider joining a book club. You meet some of the quirkiest, fun, and smartest individuals that’ll make for one hell of a bookish adventure. Book clubs provide the opportunity to make new friends, fangirl over your favorite or latest reads and establish bonds you wouldn’t make anywhere else. The greatest part is that there’s no rule, rhyme or reason. Every book club is unique to its members and should be an avenue that every twenty-something should explore.
