2013 was a big year for #1 New York Times bestselling author Rainbow Rowell. She released the acclaimed Eleanor and Park and the much-adored Fangirl. I have to say that I have a softer spot for Fangirl, a story about an introvert who starts the next big phase of her life: college. Cath, who is obsessed with the Simon Snow book series and movies, tries to deal with all the new life changes and obstacles. Simon and Baz, characters from Simon Snow, are her comfort. She writes popular fanfiction about them and is therefore famous within the fandom. While Fangirl goes on to explore Cath’s life outside of the fandom, many readers were curious about “Simon Snow” and how much it meant to Cath. So when Rowell announced that she was writing a standalone fantasy novel called Carry On about Simon and Baz, I couldn’t help but be mad excited.
