We are very pleased to host author Renée Ahdieh on The Young Folks today. I read The Wrath and the Dawn a couple weeks ago and loved it! It completely captivated me; so much so that I couldn’t decide which book to pick up next after I finished it! That’s why for this stop Renée contributed a list of books that she recommends reading after you finish The Wrath and the Dawn.

Marie Rutkoski’s The Winner’s Curse

This book and its sequel are two of my favorites from the recent past. They are beautifully written and wholly evocative. As for the romance? It might just destroy you, in the best of ways.

Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes

It’s no secret how much I adore this book—such a powerful tale of hope and survival against all odds. If you’re looking for another dose of fantasy inspired by an ancient civilization, look no further than this amazing novel

Malinda Lo’s Ash

This fantastic story is inspired by Cinderella, so if you’re in need of another retelling, this is one of the best. Not to mention the beautiful romance that blossoms between Ash and the king’s Royal Huntress.

Kristin Cashore’s Graceling

This is a personal favorite, and I always make it a point to recommend it whenever the opportunity arises. The strength of the main character—coupled by the timelessness of the story—make it a book I return to again and again.

Mary Pearson’s The Kiss of Deception

The political intrigue and intricacy of this novel are simply astounding. I love onionskin plotting, and this book offers one of the best examples.

Susan Ee’s Angelfall

I am late to the game on this one, but once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. It’s been a long time since I fell so in love with a story about bad angels and the havoc they wreak.

Marie Lu’s The Young Elites

The Legend Series is simply unputdownable, and this book is definitely its worthy successor. I also adore the unlikeable heroine at its center—she’s smart and strong and complicated in the best of ways.

Stacey Lee’s Under a Painted Sky

So this book is one of my favorite historical novels of the past year. The research is meticulous, and the story of blossoming friendship amidst personal tragedy is perfectly wrought.

Robin McKinley’s The Hero and the Crown

One of my most beloved books from childhood, this is another fantasy novel that stands the test of time and sucks you in from the very first page. The details and worldbuilding paint a perfect picture in your mind.

Melina Marchetta’s Finnikin of the Rock

I waited longer than I should have to read this one. But it was worth the wait. The characters are so wonderfully complex, and the narrative is equally multifaceted.

It is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan.
