Scholastic ‘Parent and Child’ magazine has released a list of the 100 Greatest Books for Kids. Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White took 1st place, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone came in 6th and Animalia by Graeme Base rounded off the list in 100th place. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins first published in 2008 is an unusual inclusion at 33.
It would be interesting to learn how this list was compiled given that there is one best selling book series that was noticeably left out. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer did not make the list which seems to suggest that a book’s financial success was not the only factor that was considered when this list was created.
