That is a question I have been pondering for the past few weeks as The Young Folks takes part in the #ReadISLA campaign. Stephanie Perkins has a way of weaving heartfelt and authentic stories about teens falling in love. But what makes her books extra special are the characters she creates.
This week’s goal for the #ReadISLA campaign is to take a stand with Anna of Anna and the French Kiss or Lola of Lola and the Boy Next Door. And I honestly cannot decide which one to choose. My immediate choice is Anna because of our love for film. She’s an aspiring film critic; I’m an aspiring film critic. She lives in France; I wish I lived in France. Plus, our demeanors and reactions to life are similar. But then there’s Lola, the girl with the confidence you wish you had. Lola is fearless and exciting. Her fashion sense isn’t just different but also thought-provoking. She’s the type of person who can dethrone Ms. Anna Wintour, longtime editor-in-chief of Vogue.
How can I choose?
Well, I thought about it for a whole two seconds more and realized that I don’t really have to. Therefore, I won’t. I adore both of these characters, and if you haven’t read either of these books yet, you may want to get on that before the final book of the trilogy, Isla and the Happily Ever After, hits shelves on August 14th. (For the record, Isla is another delightful character that must be met!)
Now, because I am mean and kind of hypocritical, I’m going to make YOU choose.
