Finally get to witness Rachel kicking ass and taking names in the courtroom in “Killer Ambition” by Marica Clark anther adventure filled Rachel Knight novel. What could be more tantalizing? Oh I know add in a kick-ass detective to be digging up dirt on the streets while Rachel tries to tie all the knots together in front of a jury, whose patience seems to be on edge. Not to mention that one of the two victims was the daughter of a famous Hollywood director, which pretty much lured the press into the chaos of this trial and upped the suspect list.
In this Rachel Knight novel were exposed to an actual courtroom where Rachel goes beyond her call of duty for the justice of two innocent kids that are seen as nothing more then a melodramatic story for the press. Rachel is constantly sidetracked by the craziness in the media all while hitting dead ends in this double murder. The media is targeting Rachel and the case but they are just doing their job. It isn’t until later on in the story that Rachel comes to the realization that the press’s lack of respecting privacy might help the prosecution.
Her instincts help her understand these double murders that she is faced with but the lack of evidence leaves her at a standstill in front of her jury. That plus having all the minimal evidence point to one of the family members trust worthiest person causes conflict that goes beyond Rachel’s wildest dreams. The trial was suspenseful and unnerving because I was able to understand how guilty the defendant was and how Rachel struggled to gather all the evidence that connects both the murderers together and targets one killer with a limited amount of time on her hands. Add the famous director taking the defendant side rather then trying to find the truth about his daughter and you got yourself a dramatic trial.
Not everybody understands the courtroom lingo and even if they do it tends to get boring but this novel was able to bring entertainment to the real issues that happen within the courtroom. I believe this is thanks to the author; Marcia Clark who was a former prosecutor thus had the ability to provide her audience with rich, realistic yet entertaining drama within the trial. Another great novel to be added to the Rachel Knight series!
