Hey Divergent fans! HarperCollins was kind enough to send me a copy of FOUR: A Divergent Collection early! So, below are my short reviews for the short stories. Read on below, but beware there are (minor) spoilers. Got any feedback? Holler at me in the comments or on twitter!–> @YaGirlMelberne
So, I read this story first (even thought it’s last) because it coincides with events in Divergent. And, obvi, because I wanted some FourTris feels. The feels were….alright? I dont know, I guess I didn’t find it that descriptive? I get Veronica doesn’t want him to be a “man candy” (nothing wrong with that btw) but C’MON I was waiting for SOME (more) passion.
Other than that, it was cool to see that Tobias had interacted with BOTH his parents (gasp!) and told them about the impending attack on Abnegation. And as you would guess, they both kinda had shitty responses.
P.S. Am I a terrible person if I’m still kinda pissed that neither died in Allegiant?! I am a terrible person? Eh, I’m ok with that.

In this one, we get to see Tobias getting offered to be a leader and then eventually turning it down. There’s also the first interaction with his mom where he’s hurt and angry, but deep down he still cares. At least a little. Ahhh, what a complexity of feelings that whole situation is, man. To hate, but still love your mom. There was a point in the story where I felt bad for Tobias. I mean, I have before from the other books, but in this story you get to see his mixture of anger/hope towards BOTH his parents.
One of my favorite bits was when Tobias and Eric were having a debate at the leadership training about how they would make Dauntless better. T is oh so noble, while the man with a thousand piercings is like “Hey, just let them beat the shit out of each other.”

Probably my favorite of the stories! It’s my fav because you get to see Tobias’s journey from being a lonesome “Stiff” to lettin’ loose! The game of Dare is funny and fun to read. And I also loved seeing his friendship come into fruition with Zeke and Shauna (btw, now I’m dying to know how they finally got together. She was feenin’ and he was blind!)
Amar makes an appearance! I keep thinking what a good friend he was to Tobias and Tori was too! They both nudged Four to have fun, friends and they tried to protect him without even really knowing him. Oh, and I can definitely see the obsessive Tobias thing that Amar had mentioned in Allegiant (God, it hurts to even write the title of that book. Sorry, but I was not a fan :-/ )

Commence a young Tobias pre-Dauntless. This pulls at your heart strings as we see him basically living in constant fear of his father and being stifled by Abnegation.
I liked that we get to see Tobias crossing out the other factions in his head before he chooses Dauntless at the Choosing Ceremony.
Again, I love how much Amar and Tori have his back! Amar gives Tobias’ new name and Tori doesn’t reveal his true name.
