Welcome to our stop on the Kiki Strike: The Darkness Dwellers Blog Tour! Today, we have a guest post from author Kirsten Miller, in which she names her favorite female kick-butt characters!
Hey Young Folks! Thanks so much for inviting me to guest post on your blog—and for giving me such a fabulous topic to discuss!
Kiki Strike (and the Irregulars) – They’re not on the list because Kiki and the Irregulars are my creations. I just don’t think there are many characters like them. They’re always fully dressed (unlike comic book heroines and villainesses). They’re seriously dangerous (without being sociopathic like the “girl assassins”). And they work together as a team (which is highly unusual—most kick butt ladies work alone).
The Batman Villainesses (Catwoman/ Poison Ivy/ Harley Quinn) – If you’re gonna go bad—do it in style. The villainesses in the Batman comics were always super sexy, super smart, and delightfully insane.
Edna from The Incredibles – This is who I want to be when I grow up. I’m going to buy a pair of chunky black glasses any day now. And I’m working on perfecting Edna’s phone manner. (Yes, yes dah-ling.) She is the coolest lady on earth.
Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark – If I can’t be Edna, can I please, please, please be Marion?
Lara Croft – The one from the Tomb Raider video games—NOT the movies. There was a point in my life when I spent a great deal of time playing video games. Tomb Raider was my favorite by far.

My Mom – Let’s just say that you don’t wanna mess with my mamma. I don’t think I ever saw her wear anything other than jeans and cowboy boots. And believe me, those boots saw more than their fair share of butt kicking when I was growing up.
Girl Assassins (The Professional, Hanna, Kick Ass) – This group barely made my list, unfortunately. I’m really disappointed in the “killer girl” movies that have come out in recent years. I had very high hopes for the movie, Hannah. I thought it was atrocious. And Cate Blanchett (one of my favorite actresses) does the worst Southern accent of all time.
Joi – Joi is the heroine of the other book I have coming out in January/February 2013, How to Lead a Life of Crime. I can’t tell you too much about her, unfortunately, without spoiling the book’s plot. But if you’ve managed to get ahold of an ARC, I think you’ll agree, she is awesomeness personified.
Femme Fatales Bridget Gregory (from The Last Seduction) – She’s cold, calculating and brilliant. A master criminal with no redeeming qualities. And yet you can’t help but love her. Oh man. I’m going to have to go watch that movie again right now!

Artemis – Greek mythology is a treasure trove of butt-kicking ladies. I used to be a big Athena fan, but these days I’m really loving Artemis. She’s the kind of girl who really knows how to teach a Peeping Tom a lesson or two.
