British pop star Cher Lloyd recently dropped her first single in the United States! “Want U Back” harkens back to 90’s pop music, with catchy, repetitive lyrics about, well, wanting someone back simply because they ended up with someone else. The message is a little bratty, but honest and damn catchy at the same time. Frankly, with all of the over-the-top gimmick-heavy pop stars of recent times, it was nice to see someone singing fresh, simple pop music with an uncomplicated video to boot.
One of the things that really caught my attention with this song was the growl/grunt that accents some of the beats. Any pop star that places such random outbursts of frustration throughout the course of her song is worth attention!

Cher Lloyd’s debut album, Sticks and Stones, isn’t available in America as of yet, but “Want U Back” and her other single “Swagger Jagger” (yes, I’m serious) are both available for download in the iTunes and Amazon MP3 stores.
