MTV caught up with Liam Hemsworth over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. The 21-year-old actor mentioned that he has read the “Hunger Games” script and is interested in the part of Peeta. He says:
Hemsworth, who described the project as “definitely something different,” says he could “possibly” see himself taking on the role of Peeta. While he hasn’t yet met or auditioned for the film’s director, Gary Ross, he told MTV, “I mean, it’s pretty early right now. … But, yeah, I’m sure I’ll meet [him] on it soon.” Read the full story and watch the video interview here.
What do you guys think of Liam playing Peeta? He doesn’t seem to fit the physical description of Peeta explained in the book. Other names have been tossed around as favorites for Peeta, most notably Hunter Parrish. Hunter, 24 years old, seems to have the right look to play Peeta. But as one “Hunger Games” fansite mentioned, would a big age difference between actors upset fans? Many want Hailee Steinfeld (who is 14 years old) to play Katniss. If a 24-year-old actor was cast as her love interest, would fans find it weird? Could it ruin the on-screen chemistry between the two? It’s really hard to say.
