Confidence has never really been one of my strong points – ever. I’ve always shied away from awkward situations and just stayed in my own little world. I mean, I’m not a complete introvert. Sometimes when my friends call me up and ask if I want to go out for drinks, I’ll go and actually have a great time (even if the highlight of my weekend would be the time I spent with my nose stuck in a book). Other times, I feel to be alone and in my own space.

Still, I wanted to learn how to escape awkward situations. I wanted to be more open and express myself without coming off as stush or retarded. I wanted to meet random strangers and turn them into lifelong friends. That’s why I decided to join the blog tour for the book “Fake it with Confidence” by John Freund and hosted by Sage Blog Tours.
It was definitely worth it. I never thought that Improv Comedy would actually teach me a thing or two about how to handle real life situations (before reading this book I didn’t even know what Improv Comedy was!). The way John Freund tied real life and learning to be a better Improv comedian together is just fascinating to watch. Sometimes he’d talk more about Improv Comedy than how it can help in social situations but I didn’t mind. I still loved learning about this new kind of comedy that has probably been going on for years. I also loved hearing about the ways in which he would use Improv Comedy to get himself out of awkward social encounters or how it improved his night with a Czech girl. If I had enough time to myself and didn’t have to go to work or finish up school assignments, I would’ve read this book off in less than 1 hour. It was just that engaging. There wasn’t a dull moment in this 62 paged book and I’m definitely planning on reading it over again.
Overall, I’m glad that I decided to read Fake it with Confidence. It was a great book that gave excellent pointers on how to live life to the fullest, to shed your inhibitions and how to be a better me. On top of all this, it gave me an awesome introduction to a new form of comedy that I’ve never heard about before. Heck, I might even try it out if I ever get the chance.

John Freund received his BA from UPENN and his MBA from USC (too many letters…). John first performed improv comedy with his college improv troupe Without A Net, and went on to become director of the group. He has since performed at both the Upright Citizens Brigade and the People’s Improv Theater in New York City.
