The wait is finally over! U2 is making a musical comeback this year after almost 3 years of absence. The Irish quartet released just a few days ago the first single from their upcoming new album, Songs of Experience. The song, entitled “You’re The Best Thing About Me”, follows last week’s live Facebook performance of “The Blackout“, another song expected to be part of their fourteenth studio album.
The single’s release was accompanied by a lyric video and a cover image designed by the band’s longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn and featuring the daughter of guitarist The Edge, Sian Evans.
According to the band’s website, the album is thought to be the complement of 2014’s Songs Of Innocence. Both titles are inspired by a collection of eighteenth-century English poetry written by William Blake: Songs of Innocence and Experience. “While Songs of Innocence charted the band’s earliest influences and experiences in the late 1970s and early 80s, the new album is a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to the singer’s heart; family, friends, fans, himself.”
The almost 4-minute track is a mellow electric guitar declaration of peace and love as opposed to the “The Blackout”, song with more influences of classic rock and roll and with a heavy political message.
Songs of Experience doesn’t have a release date just yet, so stay tuned for details on pre-orders and more title tracks. In the meantime, watch the lyric video for “You’re The Best Thing About Me” above and let us know what you think in the comments below!
