Iconic British new wave band Squeeze have announced the details for both their new album and a fall tour of the UK and US.
The band will release their fifteenth album, The Knowledge, through their own Love Records label on Oct. 13. It is the second album of original material that the band has released since they reunited in 2007. Last week, the band premiered the first single from The Knowledge, “Innocence in Paradise” on BBC Radio 2. You can listen to it below.
Led by songwriters Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, Squeeze made a name for themselves in the late 1970s and early 1980s with an impeccable string of classic new wave singles, including classics like “Up the Junction“, “Pulling Mussels from the Shell” and “Tempted“. The band split in 1982, but reunited in 1985 and remained active until 1999. Through their entire career, Tilbrook and Difford were the only constant members of the group.
Aside from Tilbrook and Difford, the band currently includes keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson – both of whom have been with the band since their reunion – as well as two new additions to the lineup that were announced earlier this summer; bassist Yolanda Charles, who is a former member of Aztec Camera, and percussionist Steve Smith, who is best known as the frontman for the techno group Dirty Vegas (of “Days Go By” fame).
