I can’t believe it’s been 22 years since Joe Johnston’s Jumanji starring the late Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst y Bradley Pierce came out. Even though it’s wasn’t as good as the book it was adapted from, Alan Parrish’s story in the big screen still remains as one of the best of the 1990’s.
As a 90’s kid myself, I was a bit shocked after watching the first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle released just a few days ago. I know, I know. It’s a new century, things need to get upgraded for new generations.
Directed by Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Friends with Kids, Sex Tape), the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas and Bobby Cannavale. The essence of “the game with drums” remains intact, only this time it’s four teenagers getting sucked into the Jumanji jungle, becoming avatars of the game itself. As always, the only way to get back to the real world is to win the game.
The almost two and a half minute trailer shows us glimpses of some jungle action sequences and CGI wild animals, all this while Guns N’ Roses 1987’s “Welcome To The Jungle” song plays in the back. One thing for sure: no Alan Parrish mention at all.
Who knew Jumanji also had a vintage video game around? Is the board game still around? Who has it? Is there any chance we’ll see Van Pelt again as the main antagonist of the film? Should we judge this film from the very start, or should we give it a chance? Too many questions!
I’m known for not judging a film before I see it, so I’m hoping this one doesn’t disappoint (that much).
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is set to to open on December 20, 2017. Watch the trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments below!
