I’m trying to keep my interest in Shooter, but it’s been fading. It looks like the episode is starting out with Swagger stealing a car. I guess if you’re wanted for assassination of a president, then stealing a car is a minor slap on the wrist. Swagger makes good use of the car by heading to a library. No, he’s not there to check out books or pay off a fine, he’s there to use the computers, go into gun chat rooms, and read emails from his wife, Julie. The latter seems a lot more reasonable since their main form of communicating is through email. Things get problematic when Julie leaves her tablet with the email on the counter, only to be found by her brother-in-law. Someone will have some explaining to do.
On the other end, Doyle has a sit down with the guy who gets him out of jail and wants him to retire. Doyle refuses a trip to Fiji, but wants $10 million dollars instead. Another chat, this time it’s Memphis chatting up the Russian mob lady. The chat ends in a FBI raid. Why is it that no one listens to Memphis and all her convos end in an arrest? It’s probably because they always end up in an arrest. Back to Swagger, who decided to attend a gun convention, he discovers some more intel on the gun and bullet that killed the president. He dodges the convention when he’s recognized by some vendor. Swagger calls Memphis that Lon Scott might be the shooter.
Why is it every time Johnson is shown he’s holding secret convos with trying to cover his tracks? Give this man more of a purpose instead of always backtracking. Also, how funny would it be if Swagger would get caught texting while driving? Well, he just got pulled over for a broken taillight An old feeble cop was just what Swagger could have hoped for. Before, he gets to call it in, Swagger rings his bell and dodges. That was easy. Speaking of easy, he decides to play some real-life grand theft auto and steals a car with little trouble.
Memphis is Skyping with some woman in Russia named Karlina. Once again this is the part of the show that becomes murky and confusing. This has been a common theme of the show to insert some random events like this that don’t flow with the plot and further confuse you on top of the 100 other story subplots going on. Russian Karlina doesn’t last long as she’s attacked and presumably killed with the killers warning Memphis they are coming for her.
Swagger is in another disguise, this time he’s delivering packages to Lon Scott. Johnson catches Swagger and offers for them to work together. Swagger passes on that option. The frustrations are getting to Julie Swagger, who is officially angry. She pins her brother-in-law to the fridge and tells him to leave town for being a snitch. Apparently this Russian Anton fellow has made quite the mess. All roads lead to him. Swagger wants to work with Memphis directly, so she goes to her boss and asks him to suspend her. An unusual option, but she has a plan. On the other end, Swagger gives Lon Scott a call with a warning. It’s revealed that Scott is the guy who offered Doyle the Fiji trip.
Either I’m starting to figure out Shooter, or this show is getting less confusing? Maybe it’s just getting better, because I’m starting to become more intrigued. If they limit the confusion and side stories, then things seem to get better. Less jumping from one story to the next, from scene to scene, the show is more focused. I’m hoping they don’t drop the ball on this going forward.
