Life Lessons from Gayle Forman

When I’m looking for an emotionally powerful and thought-provoking book, I have a few authors I turn to. At the top of my list is Gayle Forman, best known for her novel If I Stay. Gayle Forman has a talent for telling stories that grab you and don’t let go. I’ve cried many tears and felt so many emotions reading her books: If I Stay, Where She Went, Just One Day, Just One Year, Just One Night, and I Was Here.

Gayle Forman’s most recent book I Was Here has just been released in paperback (with a beautiful new cover!) and to celebrate, I’m sharing one of my favorite quotes/passages from Gayle Forman:

“I do have a point to all this,” she continues. “There are like twenty people in that waiting room right now. Some of them are related to you. Some of them are not. But we’re all your family.” She stops now. Leans over me so that the wisps of her hair tickle my face. She kisses me on the forehead. “You still have a family,” she whispers.” – Gayle Forman, If I Stay

If I Stay is full of so many meaningful moments but this one between Kim and Mia really hits home the meaning of family for me. It serves as a reminder that family isn’t limited by blood, that friendship is a form of love and family, and that you are never truly alone. This is just one of many life lessons I’ve picked up from Gayle Forman’s books. If you ever need to laugh, smile, cry, or be inspired, Gayle Forman’s books are a great place to start.
