We’ve got another one to add to the list!!

First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has announced that a live-action remake of its 1998 animated film Mulan is currently in development.  The company bought a script written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that focuses on the Chinese warrior Hua Mulan.  Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are set to produce the film alongside Jake Weiner.

The original Mulan grossed $304.3M worldwide and earned nominations for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe. A sequel, Mulan II was released in 2005 as a direct-to-DVD feature.

So far, no release date nor casting has been announced, but names have already begun to be thrown into the mix.  Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.), who voiced Mulan in the original film, responded to several fan tweets about being in the upcoming film.

Disney is clearly on a roll and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down with live-action remakes.  I mean, if it makes money, then why stop?  Cinderella debuted at number one and has made $330M worldwide.

Also in the works at Disney, is a live-action Dumbo, set to be directed by Tim Burton, a second Alice in Wonderland in 2016, and The Jungle Book in 2016, and Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson, in 2017.
