Box-office estimates are in for the weekend of February 13-15, 2015.
#1- Fifty Shades of Grey:
And women once again prove that they can show up to theaters in hordes. The much anticipated film adaptation of the BDSM novel opened up to $81.6M this Valentine’s Day weekend. To put that into perspective, it opened higher than the first ‘Twilight’ movie did its opening weekend, of which ‘Fifty Shades’ is a fanfic. It would be foolish to assume this series will build up the level of hype the subsequent vampire romance pics did, but with a worldwide opening over $230M, expect to see ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ on Valentines Day weekends 2016 and 2017.
#2- Kingsman the Secret Service:
As a smart choice for counter programming, the British spy movie opened to a strong $35.6M over the weekend. With positive reviews and solid worldwide potential as well, it seems as if a secret agent movie finally has the chance to follow in the success of James Bond flicks. Though many have tried, this seems the first spy movie that finally hits all the right notes.
#3- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water:
Two weekends is all it took for the SpongeBob sequel to out-gross the original movie. With kids out of school Monday as well, there’s a good chance the movie passes $100M. Regardless, it had a solid $30.5M second weekend to currently sit at a $93.6M total. Don’t be surprised if it takes less than 10 years to get the next sequel into theaters.

#4- American Sniper:
It’s almost redundant to say ‘American Sniper’ had another spectacular weekend. So, instead I’ll just let the numbers talk for it. It made $16.4M this weekend for a $304.1M total to solidify is chances as passing ‘Mockingjay Part 1’ to be the highest grossing movie released last year. It’s also the highest grossing Oscar nominated film by more than $200M.
#5- Jupiter Ascending:
On the other end of the spectrum, it would be redundant to say how disappointingly the most recent Wachowski bomb is preforming. Warner Bros. and everyone else is aware of how much of a write off this film is going to require. In its second weekend it made another $9.4M for a $32.5M total.

#6- Seventh Son: $4.1M weekend
