Tonight’s chapter of Jane the Virgin was an emotional one, and as always, it was also an eventful one. Instead of the usual review/recap, I name the top seven moments from Chapter 13.
- Rogelio’s fall from fame.
After getting killed off his telenovela, Rogelio is having a hard time nabbing another job. It doesn’t help that he’s being picky, by refusing auditions and having mini meltdowns in front of young children. Luckily, Xiomara is there to encourage him to go after the parts he typically won’t consider. At the end, he gets an offer, but holds off on accepting it because it requires him to move to Mexico. It’s one of the moments when Rogelio isn’t over-the-top dramatic, but subtle and sincere with his feelings.
- Mike figures out Sin Rostro’s identity.
That is some QUICK detective work from Michael. After questioning a few people, he deduces that it’s Rose who is Sin Rostro. But now that the police know, Rose is nowhere to be found. All I know is that Michael is in more danger than ever. And if we flashback to the hurricane episode, the foreboding end makes us think that Michael won’t be around much longer. L
- Xiomara and Abuela have a heart to heart.
Abuela is quite eager to go to physical therapy, thanks to guest star Cheech Marin. Xiomara teases her mom about the crush, but eventually, she asks her mom why she never tried to have a relationship after her father died. It’s one of those intimate mother/daughter moments that doesn’t seem to happen enough between the two characters. We learn a lot about Abuela and her heartbreak, and this makes us hope more than ever that she’s willing to open up her heart to someone new.
- Petra and Milos are a reluctant duo.
Milos isn’t leaving soon, which he made sure of by buying a third of the Marbella for Petra and him. Milos is strangely charming because of how intentionally “unintentionally” amusing he can be. Yet, he’s still really crazy, and now Petra needs to scramble to find a way out of his possessive clutches. I fear that she’s going to try to get her mother to help.
- Jane’s Graduation
Jane has to miss her graduation after getting a risky procedure to check if her baby is developing abnormalities. Rafael decides to throw a mini-ceremony at home, which as Xiomara predicts, Jane finds incredibly cheesy. Still, it is a wonderful family moment. I love when the Villanueva women get together and share a truly loving moment. It is also nice to see Rafael officially become a member of their little inner-circle.

- Jane learns to let it go.
Jane obsesses over the anomaly spotted in her ultrasound, which causes her to take the risky test to see if there is anything wrong with the baby. Her need to be prepared for everything is driving up her anxiety, and after safely getting through the procedure, she comes to terms with the fact that she can’t control everything. As Queen Elsa would say, she needs to let it go. So she does, by agreeing with Rafael that they should wait to find out the baby’s sex.
- Rafael isn’t surprised to see an old friend ALIVE.
Whew! What an emotional and heavy episode—and a good one at that. But of course, the Jane writers couldn’t end it there. Nope. They land a HUGE SLAP-IN-THE-FACE DOOZY on us. The quick and shocking ending scene sees Rafael happily (AND unsurprisingly—I may add!) greeting Roman Zazo. Yes, that Roman, who was impaled by an ice sculpture in the first episode.

Gaby’s Crazy (But it COULD happen!) Jane the Virgin Theory of the Week:
Roman has an identical twin, and that is who Rafael is greeting at the end of the episode.
