Disney has released an official poster for their upcoming sci-fi adventure ‘John Carter’ in anticipation of a new trailer due out Thursday.
John Carter is based on the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure stories. The film stars Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”) as John Carter, who is transported to Mars and becomes involved in an epic battle being waged between the inhabitants of the planet.
The poster reminds me of the paperback cover for the Hunger Games. Kitsch/Carter just like Katniss is an artistic impression of a hero over the top of a starkly contrasting background. This kind of artistic design conjures the idea of an abnormal world or setting. The art together with the tagline makes me curious to find out what kind of world Carter will find on Mars.

The film also stars Willem Dafoe (Spider Man), Samantha Morton (In America), Ciaran Hinds (Harry Potter), Dominic West (The Wire) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad).
