After a series of teasers across various social media platforms–including one in which Panic! at the Disco’s remaining solo member Brendon Urie brushed his teeth near a clock radio flashing 3:19–fans were ravenous for any new music news the band had to offer. An Instagram story on Sunday revealed that there would be a surprise pop-up show in Cleveland, OH. At the show, Panic! pulled a bait-and-switch, presenting a completely different reveal: Nicole Row, their new touring bass player who has worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Troye Sivan, and Fat Joe. As the first female musician in their lineup ever, she caused quite a stir, mostly from fans exclaiming their support and excitement for seeing this kind of inclusion in an alt-rock band.
As it happens, Panic! at the Disco wasn’t done with the surprises for the week. During Monday’s Cleveland show, teaser fliers noting that the next pop-up show would be Wednesday in Asbury Park, NJ were dropped. The show has since been moved to tomorrow thanks to yet another winter storm hitting the Northeast, but Panic! still wasn’t done. After noting the date change, they dropped the news that their sixth studio album Pray for the Wicked will be available worldwide on June 22nd. Urie had this to say about his latest venture:
I pray for all the wicked people doing wicked things and for all the good people doing good things every day.
I pray that my family stays safe while I’m on the road trying to share an incomparable experience with a million different friends.
I pray, but not to any one specifically. More to myself, pleading to stay positive and loving and open-minded.
I meditate on what concerns me. The things I enjoy. The changes I want to see in the world. The people who lift me up. The people who bring me down.
I pray.
So here’s a few more prayers from me and my friends.
