Now that Victoria Belfry is dead and Lucy is awake, it’s time for Once Upon a Time to move the storyline forward. This means we’re one step closer to Henry and Jacinda realizing who they truly are and that they’re meant to be.
While their love story is not the main event in “A Taste of the Heights,” the couple still plays a prominent role. Now that Lucy is awake, she wants her parents to realize their true selves and break the cure with true love’s kiss.
However, unlike every other curse that has plagued the characters’ lives, if the two kiss, the curse will be broken, but it will also kill Henry. For a young girl who just wants her parents back together, she now has to work to keep them apart so she doesn’t lose her father forever.
Since the beginning of season seven we have been following Henry’s love story with Cinderella/Jacinda, but this episode finally gives light to a secondary character who has been in the shadows, away from her best friend. The episode’s adventure leads viewers to the bayou as we learn the backstory of Tiana and Prince Naveen, or more commonly known as the story of The Princess and the Frog.
Even though season seven has been lackluster, mainly due to the fact that the main actors are no longer on the show, it was nice to watch an episode highlighting someone new for a change. It gave Mekia Cox a chance to shine with the family A-listers in the cast.
Fans got to see a glimpse into the life of hard worker-turned-princess Tiana. Just like the animated Disney film, her perseverance and go-getter attitude is still alive and well on the small screen.
Tiana’s Hyperion Heights alter-ego, Sabine, got her first chance at making a name for her aptly named food truck “Rollin’ Bayou,” but she experiences a hiccup when she’s told she has to shut down for not having a specific permit. While she believes it’s the work of her uber-competitive frenemy from college, Naveen, it’s actually the work of Dr. Facilier.
In a show that never shies away from strong females (after all, the savior during the show’s run was none other than Jennifer Morrison’s Emma Swan), it was nice to see a new heroine rise to the challenge. Cox does a fantastic job proving that she is a force to be reckoned with. Just like Tiana in the animated film, Cox brings Tiana’s tenacity to life as she maneuvers the men who try to put roadblocks in her life.

Speaking of strong leading ladies, Tiana was not the only one to prove her worth in “A Taste of the Heights.” A flashback showed that Regina had a history with Facilier. Instead of laying low and pretending she doesn’t know what the voodoo man wants, the Evil Queen herself has to also face her past. While it is not clear if the two are linked romantically or more for power, Regina is putting herself in a position to take control.
She is one to never back down from a fight and with Facilier in town, there is a chance that everyone will be put to the ultimate test of not only strength, but also will power.
