TV News: Game of Thrones Gets A Season 6 Premiere Date

Ever since HBO teased us with the poster bearing Jon Snow’s face, we have been waiting anxiously for a date when the popular fantasy series will return.

Game of Thrones will be back on our screens for its sixth season April 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This will also be the first year that the show will not be following a published book, as the author of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” that the series is based on, George R.R. Martin has confirmed that he has not completed the next book in the series yet.

Entertainment Weekly also reported that Michael Lombardo, the HBO programming president, revealed to them at the HBO Television Critics Association press tour party that they are in talks to extend Game of Thrones, which won the Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2015, for at least another two seasons.

David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the Game of Thrones showrunners, have said that they would like the series to end after season seven, as that was their original game plan in accordance with Martin’s books. Although Lombardo has said that Benioff and Weiss have discussed extending that game plan to at least eight seasons. This would also mean cast members that play surviving characters would need to extend their contracts as the cast are only optioned for seven seasons.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24 at 9 p.m.
