Film News: Dylan O’Brien Takes the Lead in ‘The Maze Runner’

The Maze Runner has been on a roll lately. A couple weeks ago, we learned that Kaya Scodelario joined the cast to play Teresa, the female lead. It was an indication that an announcement on who will get the lead role of Thomas should be coming soon. Well, today Deadline reports that Dylan O’Brien (MTV’s Teen Wolf) has nabbed the role of Thomas in Wes Ball’s upcoming film.

Based off James Dashner’s bestselling book, The Maze Runner finds Thomas waking up with no memory in a maze. There, he finds a group of other boys who have previously arrived there in the same fashion that he had. The next day, for the first time, a girl wakes up in the maze with a message for Thomas. Together, with others, they must find a way to escape the maze.

Dylan O’Brien is sound choice for Thomas. From the few episodes of Teen Wolf that I’ve seen, he always stood out as my favorite. Honestly, he’s the best actor in that cast, so I’m happy to see him tackle this crazy adventure in The Maze Runner.

With Thomas cast, The Maze Runner is very close to production. It is said to begin filming next month in Baton Rouge, LA. The film is planned to be released February 14, 2014.
