Stephenie Meyer Announces Release of New ‘Twilight’ Book With Gender A Swapped Edward and Bella

Twilighters rejoice!!! Or, scratch your heads in confusion like the rest of us.

Just in time for the 10th anniversary of Twilight, author Stephenie Meyer announced that she has written a 442 page reimagined version of her best-selling novel that switches the genders of the protagonists. Entitled Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, Edward Cullen is now named Edythe and Bella Swan is Beau. Still with me? In fact, they are not the only characters who received a name change. Here is a full list:

Jacob (or Jake) to Julie (or Jules)- Jules is friendly and open to Beau

Dr. Carlisle is now Dr. Carine– The vampire matriarch of the Cullen family

Esme is now Earnest– The vampire patriarch of the Cullen family

Alice is now Archie– Edythe’s pretend brother and Jessamine’s partner

Rosalie is now Royal– Jessamine’s pretend brother and Eleanor’s partner

Jasper is now Jessamine– Archie’s partner and Royal’s pretend sister

Billy is now Bonnie– Julie’s mother and a good friend of Charlie, Beau’s father.

Jessica is now Jeremy– Beau’s friend at the beginning of school

Angela is now Allen– Beau’s friend at school

Mike is now McKayla– McKayla has a crush on Beau and asks him to the school dance.

Tyler is now Taylor– Taylor almost accidentally hits Beau with her car, asks him to the school dance.

Connor to Colleen– Attends Beau’s high school

Samantha to Sean– Attends Beau’s high school

Sam to Samantha (also known as Sam)- Julie’s older friend

James to Joss– A vampire who attacks Beau

Victoria to Victor– Joss’s vampire partner and friend

Laurent to Lauren– Victor and Joss’ vampire friend

Despite the changes made Meyer insists that it is the same love story we all fell head over heels for. In the foreword the author explains that each character has a slight personality change as well.  She also goes on to apologize for not finishing Midnight Sun (which was Twilight from Edward’s point of view) and why she chose to write this new book.

Personally, I really don’t know how I feel about it. When I heard on Monday that Stephenie Meyer was going to make some big announcement I got really excited and thought it might have been news about a brand new, vampire-less novel she was working on. At least I was half right. I’m just ready to see something else from Stephenie.  Basically, all she did was write a fan-fiction for her own story

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined is already available in hardcover and as an e-book.
